Essential materials needed are a notebook, file and pens. IT equipment is provided by the provider. The course is aimed to give the learner the starting point of how to use a computer, keyboard skills, mouse skills and how to access various programmes. Also how to access the internet and use basic searches. This course has been developed to enable the learner to begin their computing learning. Starting from scratch, how to open a PC through to building confidence using keyboard, mouse/touchpad to accessing programmes such as Microsoft Word and Paint. The basics of accessing the internet to search for information using search engines. There is no entry requirement for this course. The course if for anyone with little or no experience of how to use a computer. Main topics covered are: opening and closing a PC, accessing various programmes, saving and printing work, keyboard and mouse skills, using tools to alter the appearance of a document, accessing the internet using search engines. By the end of the course learners will be able to: open and close a PC correctly, use a mouse and keyboard to input information, use various tools, access various programmes, use a search engine, use an address bar. Teaching and learning methods used are: demonstrations, worksheets, discussion, Q&A, practical assessments including quizzes. There is no formal assessment on this course. Suggested progression routes are basic IT including emailing, social networks, and digital imaging.
