There are no essential materials needed for this course. The course is to raise awareness of substances (drug and alcohol), their use and effects. This training will improve basic understanding and awareness of all drugs and alcohol. The subjects covered within this include: types of drugs and their associated problems, as well as offering an understanding of why people use drugs and the effects of drug use, and signs and symptoms of drug use. During the day, the group will also define alcohol unit strengths, recommended safe levels, binge drinking, and how long it takes for the body to process alcohol from our system. There is no entry requirement on this course. The programme is aimed at any person wishing to increase their knowledge of substance misuse. The course will give an increased basic understanding. By the end of the course learners will have an increased understanding of the issues faced by people with a substance misuse addiction. They will also have more awareness of signs and symptoms, and how they will be able to help. The programme is interactive, and will include discussions, group work, and exercises There is no formal assessment for this course Suggested progression routes are Introduction to Support Work and ASIST Course There is no pre-course reading or preparation needed for this course.
