You will take part in performances, some of which are recorded, as well as composing pieces of music, developing your analytical skills when listening to music and learning to harmonise. AS course: 1st Year Unit 1: Music Technology Portfolio 1 – each of these units has a time limit to complete the task and must be done under supervised conditions. 1a: Sequenced Realised Performance: You are to produce an accurate and musical realisation of a piece of music in the form of a skeleton score set by the exam board. 1b: Multi-Track Recording: You are to use between 8 and 12 tracks to produce a recording of a commercially available song. 1c: Creative Sequenced Arrangement: You are to create a 2 to 3-minute arrangement of a piece of music from a CD set by the exam board. Unit 2: Listening and Analysis – 1 hr & 45 min exam examining musical and technical elements on a CD. Section A: Development of Popular Music from 1910 to the present day. Section B: Special Focus styles/Development of Technology. A2 course: 2nd Year Unit 3: Music Technology Portfolio 2 – Each of these Units has a time limit to complete the task, and must be done under supervised conditions. 3a: Sequenced Integrated Performance: Create a sequence which sounds as close to the original as possible and integrate up to 3 live audio tracks from a choice of 2 recordings set by the exam board. 3b: Multi-Track Recording: Create a recording lasting between 3 & 5 minutes, and using at least 12 tracks focusing on a choice of two topics set by the exam board. 3c: Composing using Music Technology: Compose a piece lasting 3 to 4 minutes from a choice of 3 briefs set by the exam board. Unit 4: Analysing and Producing. A two-hour exam in which you will be required to comment on musical and technological elements from a CD, edit MIDI and Audio, identify and correct mistakes, and produce a stereo mix-down.
