English Language is designed for students who are interested in the way that we use language and how language develops. You will study topics such as how language varies depending on mode, field, function and audience, how language choices can create personal identities, language variation in English from c1550 to the present day, spoken language acquisition and how children learn to write, the relationship between spoken language acquisition and literacy skills, along with the theories of children’s language development. This course develops a variety of skills and therefore works well with any subject combination.
