The course is aimed at anyone interested in working in areas such as veterinary nursing, zoos and wildlife park management, animal keepers and tour guides. Boarding kennels and catteries need competent and caring staff. The Armed Forces, Police and Custom and Excise require dog trainers and carers. Various welfare organisations like the RSPCA need inspectors and care staff. With the increasing range of pets available at pet shops, staff who can offer relevant advice are needed. The course consists of 19 units of study, which are a mixture of core and optional units. These include: Special Project Study; Animal Biology; Nutrition; Animal Breeding and Genetics; Animal Health; Animal Behaviour; Ecology & Conservation; Biochemistry & Microbiology Wildlife and Rehabilitation; Welfare & Breed Development; Pet Store Management; Animal Anatomy & Physiology; Animal Handling & Safe working; Animal Feeding; Animal Accommodation; Investigative project; Work Experience; Business Management; Exotics; Farm Management. Part-time study may be available and will be offered on an individual basis.
