English Literature AS Level (at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College)

The first year involves the study of a Shakespeare play, an anthology of poetry and two prose texts. The theme is ‘Love through the Ages’ and students will be required to undertake wider reading on the same theme. The Second year involves reading on another theme which will be either WW1 and its Aftermath or Modern Times: Literature from 1945 to the Present Day. Students will also produce a 2,500 word extended essay on two different works of literature at least one of which must have been written pre-1900.
