At A2 Level the specification continues to require you to be actively involved in a range of citizenship activities. You will study the principles and characteristics of justice systems, the nature of representative democracy, the role of parliament in the UK and global citizenship issues. Unit 3: Power and Justice During this unit you will develop your understanding of the nature of crime and the role of the police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the trial process, know who makes decisions, judges, magistrates and juries, explore the issue of sentencing, how we elect representatives, how elections work and accountability of government, the relationship citizens have with these MP’s, the power of government and the global village. Unit 4: Global Issues In the final unit of the A-Level you will research into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the human rights abuses. You will then look at global issues involving conflict and its resolutions, trade and environmental issues. You will be expected to carry out an in-depth study of either a global environmental or trade issue and find out how citizens can make a difference in these areas. Active Citizenship: Making a Difference You will be given the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice by undertaking a study in regard to a pre-released topic. This will involve you undertaking research into the background of the issues involved, the nature and roles of the key players and how change may be brought about to resolve issues. The topic may relate to any section of the course.
