UPDATED 20131203 03:32:09

If you fancy yourself a film buff and are interested in the cinema industry then you'll love this course. The emphasis is on you developing your own thoughts and critical views, as well as working on a creative project of your own with a digital storyboard or an extended step outline as part of your practical assessment. The course is designed to deepen your understanding and enjoyment of British and American cinema. You'll explore a wide range of films, develop skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection. You'll visit a number of university events as well as regular cinema trips. The British cinema part of the course focuses on how British film represents asylum seekers and immigrants in contemporary society. The key texts are Dirty Pretty Things and Yasmin. The American Cinema module focuses on genre studies and considers the role of melodrama in American society. The key texts are American Beauty and The Virgin Suicides. AS & A2 students can access our state-of-the-art Creative Studios on the Queen Alexandra Campus.
