Course information

Name: NCFE Tech Cert Supp T&L in School L3 Qualification title: Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment Placement: All students must complete a 100 hour placement between September and June whilst on the course in an education setting (primary/secondary/college but no playgroups, after school clubs, youth clubs etc). Students may work in any year group from reception to sixth form in schools or be supporting young adults in a college setting. Placements may be carried out in a nursery class attached to a school provided the lead practitioner holds a PGCE (Teacher Training qualification) rather then a childcare qualification. Students will be observed by a member of the teacher training team at the setting during the summer term and the college keeps in regular contact with the placement setting to check on progress. Please note we do not find placements - students must secure their own placement in an education setting and provide written confirmation from that setting that they are able to support there for a minimum of 100 hours when they begin the course. Classes: Students will attend weekly classes of 3.5 hours at the Rookery Lane Campus. As they progress through the course they will complete a number of course engagement tasks (in lessons and as homework) that will assess their growing knowledge, understanding and skills in each unit. They will need to complete independent research using internet and library resources and will write case studies, assignments and keep a reflective journal. They will also work in groups and present their findings to the class and seek information from their education setting with regard to policies, procedures etc. The course engagement tasks for each unit are submitted for assessment by the course tutor on set dates during the course. The External Examiner visits twice during the academic year and assesses the portfolios submitted. Students should anticipate that writing up notes and completing homework course engagement tasks will take between 2-3 hours per week of independent study. It should be noted that students will not recieve the whole qualification unless all course engagement tasks are completed to a good standard and the placement has been completed with confirmation in writing from the education setting.
