This programme is suitable for learners who have no prior child care experience and also for existing staff members who wish to achieve formal qualifications and update their Literacy and Numeracy skills. All learners must be in paid employment (min. 30 hours per week) and have a written contract of employment to confirm this. The learner will spend time in the college as well as gaining practical experience in the workplace. In the workplace the learner is expected to work along side experienced staff to gain skills of care. The employer pays the learner a salary. The learner will attend college on a day- release basis or have the option of distance learning.
