"English Language and Literature brings together the skills of technical analysis and literary discussion and debate. You should not think of these as two separate strands as all units on the course will demand the integration of both. This subject will teach you to develop autonomy as a reader - that is, approach your reading thoughtfully and evaluate what you encounter for yourself rather than uncritically accepting the opinions of others. It will help you to understand how authors and journalists construct texts for different effects, as well as giving you the opportunity to do this yourself."
