YOGA FOR BEGINNERS

UPDATED 20130917 10:27:39

This a fairly gentle style of Hatha yoga, but with the option of extending and strengthening postures (as long as the student can breath comfortably in the posture). There is emphasis on awareness of breath and body, how we feel, and how this may relate to our lives. For beginners, there is an emphasis on establishing comfortable diaphragmatic breathing to help maintain calmness. Use is made of sound, with some breathing practices and mantra meditation. Each session will build on previous ones, include new practices, and revise others to gradually develop postures and understanding of the mind, body and breath. Towards the end of every session we will unwind with some breathing techniques or meditation, finishing with a relaxation.
