"This is a certificated course but starts at total beginner level and allows you to build a portfolio of evidence. You will be working with a qualified tutor who will take you through the basics of computers and will help you start to build your confidence and skills. The first 7 weeks will include using Windows Word, saving and printing, using keyboard mouse, icons and desktop and computer components. You then move on to the certificate which is a very gentle introduction to accredited courses. There are no examinations and achievement will be based on tasks completed during the sessions. To achieve the full award learners must obtain three of the following four units: Displaying Information using ICT, creating s simple poster using text, numbers and images which is then amended Using IT to find information, using the Internet, removable media and Help files Communicating Information Using ICT, send, receive and print emails Creating graphs and charts, using MS Excel to create a range of chart options "

Entry requirements

Learners are required to attend sessions on a regular basis to enable them to achieve the accreditation and will find it beneficial if they are using at least some of the packages outside of the classroom. It will be necessary to practice skills between classes. The software being used in centres is MS Windows 7 and MS Office 2010, this may be different at external venues. For learners who do not have access to IT at home computers and support are available at libraries. Books are available for classroom use but need to be purchased if required for home use.
