Drawing and Painting - Absolute Beginners

The course involves working with watercolours and dry mediums. With support and guidance, you will create and develop your own drawings and paintings that can involve working from your own photographs, actual still life arrangements and other references and handouts. You will observe tutor demonstrations prior to practising the techniques and exploring your own interpretation of the demonstration content and incorporating elements within your own projects. The use of a sketchbook will also be encouraged to practise subjects and form a visual reference book to support projects being developed. Other aspects of art will be covered including composition, perspective and looking at the cultural origins of art and how they have influenced artists throughout the centuries.

Entry requirements

Initially an HB or 2B pencil and putty rubber will be required for sketching and creating outline drafts of subjects. A set of watercolour pans and round brushes nos. 2, 4 and 8, an A3 watercolour pad and an A5 sketchbook will be required. These can be purchased from local suppliers such as W.H.
