The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in almost equal measure. You will extend your ability to create drama and theatre, either in a performing or design role. You will also be required to write about drama and to develop your powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in drama productions, as well as studying plays and playwrights. Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre - 40% of AS Marks This unit introduces students to the content of plays written for the theatre. They will learn how to analyse plays in a variety of ways so that they become familiar with the way written plays can be interpreted for realisation in performance. Unit 2:Theatre Text in Performance - 60% of AS Marks This unit offers students the chance to demonstrate skills in a performance or a design role. The knowledge and understanding gained during the study of two plays in unit 1 can now be applied with a view to delivering a performance to an audience. Assessed by coursework only. Throughout your course you will be required to attend Theatre trips both locally and in London, as part of the exam board requirement. This A Level can lead to further study in Drama,Theatre Studies and Performing Arts.Many universities and drama schools will require an audition along with your application. Drama and Theatre Studies can be used as part of your course to broaden your studies and may lead on to a career in the performing arts industries. This course complements a range of subjects and is useful in building confidence and improving presentation skills in a range of careers.
