This course explores a range of English Literature from a variety of periods and cultures and offers opportunity for personal development and enrichment, while at the same time providing a qualification of considerable academic merit and prestige. AS Level (Year 1) Unit 1: LLITB1 Aspects of Narrative This unit will introduce students to the central position of narrative in the ways in which literary texts work. Texts studied include ?The Great Gatsby? by F Scott Fitzgerald, poems by John Keats and Robert Browning and ?The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time? by Mark Haddon. Unit 2: LITB2 Dramatic Genres: Tragedy Texts studied include ?The Duchess of Malfi? and ?Othello? A2 Level (Year 2) Unit 3: LITB3 Texts and Genres The aim of this unit is to develop ideas on the significance of genre which have been established during the AS course. Unit 4: LITB4 Further and Independent Reading The aims of this unit include: ? the study of a wide range of texts ? different ways of reading texts for study ? some critical ideas Assessed by coursework and exam. Progression onto higher education to study subjects such as English,Media Studies, Journalism, Linguistics, History or Philosophy. Employment in areas such as journalism, publishing, administration, education, social services and law.
