Duration : 1 year This course will suit you if you have a strong interest in mathematics. This is a very challenging course and you will have to be highly motivated and capable of independent study in order to be successful. The course covers a mixture of pure and applied mathematics. Pure mathematics involves an extension of many areas touched upon in GCSE',' such as algebra',' trigonometry',' and coordinate geometry',' and introduces new',' more abstract topics such as calculus and exponential functions. Statistics involves the representation and interpretation of data',' and lots of probability; decision mathematics looks at algorithms and logical problems. At AS Level you will study: C1: Pure Mathematics 1 C2: Pure Mathematics 2 S1: Statistics 1 At A2 Level you will study: C3: Pure Mathematics 3 C4: Pure Mathematics 4 D1: Decision Mathematics 1 Each module is assessed by a 90 minute examination and all carry equal weighting. There is no coursework requirement in either year. Please note: subject to student numbers it is also sometimes possible to study Further Maths AS alongside A2 Maths in your second year. Entry Requirements: For AS Levels you will need five GCSE passes at grades A*-C',' including English and GCSE maths Higher Tier grade B or above. Other relevant qualifications can be discussed at interview. If you have grades A and B at GCSE or a strong overall GCSE profile',' we will encourage you to study four AS courses. To progress from AS to A2 you are expected to gain at least a grade C in the AS subject studied.
