UPDATED 20170103 14:06:12

The tutors, who are industry professionals give students the technical training, design understanding and realisation techniques essential for a career in the textile or fashion industries. The course allows students to develop their understanding of the design process in both a textiles and fashion context before choosing which pathway they would like to explore further. (Students opt to study a fashion or textiles pathway after exploring both areas to make an informed decision). The textiles pathway focuses on textile design and manipulation. It allows students the opportunity to focus on a wide range of applications including textiles for fashion, for interior design or as fine art and crafts, opening a range of career options. Students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of conventional and non-traditional materials, techniques and processes including fabric manipulation, printing and embroidery. Tutors are practicing textile professionals who guide students to their individual career pathway and are 100% successful in doing so! Students also experience live briefs and competitions and have the opportunity to exhibit their work in Paris at the International Trade Show, Indigo. Final grades will give the maximum UCAS point score of 420. Successful completion of the course gives the qualifications and skills required to progress into a range of Degree or Foundation Degree courses or to go directly into employment. Career pathways include: Employment with national and international design companies, designing fashion and interior textiles for specialist markets including giftware, accessories and costumes, working as a self-employed designer/maker, textile assistant or freelance designer in textiles, interior design, trend forecasting and illustration.
