This qualification encompasses the essential skills, knowledge and understanding you will require to gain confidence and progression in the field of health and social care. Your programme of study will prepare you for progression within education or into employment in the sector. Eventually, this study programme could enable you to progress onto higher education or into the world of work and into professions such as home care worker, senior care worker, social worker, health services manager, nursing, home care manager, paramedic, physiotherapist and midwifery. Salaries for these occupations range from £14,000 to £38,000. The college has excellent links with many relevant and high quality work experience placements and as part of your study programme, you will have the opportunity to undertake work experience and gain real 'hands-on' experience in a relevant setting such as a care home, nursery, hospital or other specialist area and will relate learning in the classroom to health and care settings. This valuable experience will further develop your skills and knowledge and aid your career choice. Your main programme will include topics such as, developing effective communication in health and social care, equality, diversity and rights in health and social care, health, safety and security in health and social care and the development through the life stages. You will also have the opportunity to study a range of optional units including, anatomy and physiology, personal and professional development, sociological perspectives on health, psychological perspectives on health, values and planning in social care, caring for children, and young people, public health and science for health
