UPDATED 20140205 11:19:59

Functional Skills are a key element of the 14-19 reforms and comprise practical skills in English, Mathematics and ICT. These qualifications are suitable for learners of all ages, providing them with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding to enable them to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and work. Functional skills are common to all our lives. They help us make sense of daily life, for example when working out which deal is best value, writing an application letter or surfing the internet. They are about problem-solving, effective decision-making, and resolving real life challenges. They can be taken as free-standing qualifications or as a component of Apprenticeships, Diplomas, or Foundation Learning programmes. Each Mathematics assessment is made up of three tasks covering number, geometry and statistics. The assessments require learners to apply their process and problem solving skills. The Mathematics assessments may be taken as paper-based or on-screen assessments. All of EDI’s Functional Skills assessments are available on demand. The EDI Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Entry Level 3 is a one unit qualification based on the functional skills qualification criteria for mathematics at Entry Level 3. In order to achieve the qualification learners must successfully complete an externally set assessment lasting 1 hour.
