Foundation ESOL Access for HE L2 : Cambridge Certificate in English L2 (QCF)

This course is for those whose first language is not English and would like to study at an advanced level to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You will gain competence in all four skills to prepare you for the demands of a range of professional, educational and social scenarios. The course covers essential skills for the workplace and the university classroom and also covers relevant aspects of citizenship. It also provides a useful platform for students intending to take Cambridge First Certificate, Cambridge Advanced or IELTS exams in the future. After completing the course, you will be in a stronger position to apply for a further college or university course or apply for jobs while also enriching your social and cultural experience in the UK. If you are an existing learner you will need to have completed SFL Level 1 in Speaking and Listening and be working at Level 1 Functional Skills English or above. The course is designed for those operating at B2 to C1 on the CEFR or around 5.5 -7.0 on the IELTS scale. You will have the opportunity to prepare for qualifications in Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life exams at the appropriate level through a combination of internal and external exams in addition to portfolio-based work You will learn individually but mainly in pair and group-based activities and workshops are provided to suit individual needs in a designated computer room. Support and guidance is given through regular tutorials. You will be expected to complete regular homework, access Moodle (the college's Virtual Learning Environment) from home or the library on a weekly basis and take responsibility for organising a personal portfolio of work throughout the year.
