This course consists of the same 8 core units as the Diploma course and a number of specialist units to enable the student to achieve 180 credits. Units covered on this course include applied psychology, developing effective communication, applied sociology and infection prevention and control. These provide both the key knowledge and the practical caring skills required to work in a wide range of care environments. There will also be work experience in a variety of settings each year. This qualification will allow full time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification and therefore learners would be able to enter employment in hospitals, care homes and other health related fields, as well as in community work, housing and the voluntary sector. It will also enable learners to progress to university degree courses, such as nursing, social work, midwifery, paramedic etc. All full time learners will undertake at least one additional qualification that will enhance their study skills and employability.
