This course is an intensive, nationally recognised qualification where you will develop skills, knowledge and understanding of rail engineering track maintenance. It's an ideal course to take if you're starting your training in rail engineering and want an introduction to the key areas. You'll receive lots of practical training in our Skillsbase Training Centre, so you'll get to know what it's like working in this industry. You'll have the opportunity to gain your Personal Track Safety Card, offering you access to the railway infrastructure and gaining employment in the industry. This course combines practical training with theory sessions, demonstrations and lectures. Subjects you'll study include routine manual maintenance, routine inspection, replacement of railway tracks, prepare small plant, measuring and tools for railway track maintenance and ensure that the rail track is fit for operational purposes following engineering activity. You'll usually attend College for three days a week working at our Skillsbase Training Centre. You may need to pay for specialist materials associated with this course. You’ll gain an NVQ Level 2 Certificate/Diploma in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance, English and your PTS card. You could go on to further study in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance or gain employment as a skilled track operative, with the opportunity to become team leader and supervisor and you could eventually move in to management positions.
