This course is an intensive, nationally recognised qualification covering accommodation, reception and basic supervisory skills and food and beverage preparation and service. It's an ideal course to take if you're starting your training in hospitality and want an introduction to the key areas. You'll receive lots of practical training in our on-site restaurant and kitchens. You'll also go to work experience to develop your understanding of what it's like working in this field. You'll have opportunities to enter national competitions, which will help you to build contacts and get yourself noticed by employers. This course combines practical training with theory sessions, demonstrations and lectures. It covers subjects such as practical cookery, food and drink service, business skills, event management, team leading, human resource management and customer service. You'll usually attend college from Monday to Friday, with some weekend and evening events. You'll gain a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Hospitality, Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English, and a Food Safety Certificate. You could go on to further study in hospitality management or professional culinary arts here at the University of Derby Buxton, start working in a junior managerial position, or enhance your qualifications in areas such as cookery or restaurant service.
