You'll develop the skills and knowledge you'll need to start your career in areas such as nursing, midwifery, social work, occupational therapy, childcare, counselling or teaching. You'll put your classroom learning into practice during work placements. You will study a variety of units including Communication, Anatomy and Physiology, and Psychology. You can also choose from a range of modules to suit your career choice, such as Nutrition, Complementary Therapies, Dealing with Challenging Behaviour, Physiological Disorders, and Mobility and Exercise for Health and Social Care. You will come into college two or three days each week and go on three or four one week placements ranging from nursery to care of the elderly. You will gain a Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Health and Social Care, Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English and a HSE approved first aid qualification. When you've completed the Extended Diploma you can move on to a range of university courses in nursing, midwifery, psychology, social work, occupational therapy or teaching. Alternatively, you could go into full time work as a care worker in the health and social care sector.
