A combination of practical and theory based activities and assignments. This course has two groups: Group A - Music Technology This group is designed for students who want to produce their own music using computers and recording studio equipment. Students will learn to produce their own tracks using industry-standard music software and a range of other music technology equipment. They will produce tracks as a part of the course assignments. They will also learn about releasing music and will have at least one track released as a part of the course. Group B - Music Performance This group is designed for students who want to become performing musicians. Students will learn to perform as a part of a band and they will take part in a series of gigs as a part of the course assignments. They will also learn about organising events and will organise at least 2 events as a part of the course. Both groups will also study the historical development of popular music, the music industry and computer-based composition of music for media and games. Functional Skills or GCSE classes English and Maths (for those without a Grade C) are also included. The method of learning is a mixture of written work, discussion sessions and practical work. Practical work will be done both individually and in groups. This course will give you the necessary qualification to apply for a Level 3 qualification such as an Extended Diploma (including BTEC Extended Diploma in Music and BTEC Extended Diploma in Music Technology). Alternatively, you could seek employment in the music industry. This course is for students who wish to either enter employment in the music industry, or a related area, or progress to a Level 3 qualification in Music Performance or Music technology.
