Access to Higher Education - Nursing

This is a Full Level 3 programme (i.e. equivalent to A levels, NVQ Level 3 or a BTEC National Diploma). It is the most popular route of entry into Higher Education for adults. There are class based sessions, tutorials and independent study and research. You will build a personal portfolio of your completed assignments as you progress through the course. For the Nursing Pathway you will be studying Human Biology, Psychology and Sociology. N.B. A higher level of mathematics is required for this pathway. You may wish to take GCSE Mathematics before starting this course. If you don't already have GCSE English you will need to take it either before starting on the course or whilst studying on the course. The course is designed to prepare students for progression to Degrees or Diplomas at University. Popular choices include Degrees in Social Work, Teaching, Science, Psychology, Sociology, History at Universities throughout the UK. There are also opportunities to obtain GCSE Mathematics, English or Science (GCSE Science only available in Northampton) Students who have been out of education for some time and aiming to go on to University to study for a Degree or equivalent.

Each unit carries a number of credits at Level 2 or 3. Some units are compulsory. Credits will be awarded for the successful completion of the coursework and timed assignments for each unit. 60 credits with at least 45 at Level Three are required for the Access Diploma. If you are re-taking GCSE's alongside this course there will be an additional exam fee of approximately £35 per subject taken.
