Access to Higher Education - Humanities and Social Science

This is a full Level 3 programme (i.e. equivalent to A levels, NVQ Level 3 or a BTEC National Diploma). It is the most popular route of entry into Higher Education for adults. There are class based sessions, tutorials and independent study and research. You will build a personal portfolio of your completed assignments as you progress through the course. For the Humanities and Social Science pathway you will be studying Psychology, Sociology, English and History. There are also opportunities to obtain GCSE Mathematics, English Language or Science. (GCSE Science only available at Northampton) The course is designed to prepare students for progression to Degrees or Diplomas at University. Popular choices include Degrees in Social Work, Teaching, Science, Psychology, Sociology, History at Universities throughout the UK. Students who have been out of education for some time and aiming to go on to university to study for a Degree or equivalent.

Each unit carries a number of credits at Level 2 or 3. Some units are compulsory. Credits will be awarded for the successful completion of the coursework and timed assignments for each unit. 60 credits with at least 45 at Level Three are required for the Access Diploma.
