You’d be surprised at just how much of today’s most exciting and innovative technology comes from people who have completed a manufacturing or engineering Apprenticeship. Fabrication is the term we use to cover a wide range of occupations including: Welders, Platers, Sheet Metal Workers, Pipe Fitters. Fabricator/welders are essential in all fields of engineering and manufacturing, and need to be able to work in all environments inside, outside, as well as under water! Our Fabrication and Welding Department offer learners an authentic manufacturing environment with dedicated training facilities. What will you be learning? This course will involve working from Engineering drawings to measure and mark out thick/thin plate material to fabricate a range of components in our dedicated work shop facilities. Learners will learn how to weld sections and components using: Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MAGS), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded (TAGS). Learners will have the opportunity to undertake individual training and work on group projects. This course includes a wide range of activities such as Manual welding Welding machine operating Plastic welding Sheetmetal work Plate work Structual steelwork Pipe and tube fabrication Composite fabrication Thermal cutting Rail welding The programme will include mandatory requirements of the Apprenticeship framework; an NVQ, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.
