BTEC Level 3 in Engineering

During the first year you will study 9 units. In the second year you will complete a further 9 units to include a major project in your chosen discipline. The pattern of attendance is 4 full days per week for 2 years. The Extended Diploma in Engineering will allow you to enter the world of work or university. Many engineers who gain this qualification go on to university and read for a BSc in Engineering. All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. An Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels and a National Certificate is equivalent to 2 A Levels. This qualification is recognised by industry as providing a good base as it includes elements of mechanical, electrical and electronics skills. This courses is ideal if you have and interest in the technical aspects of Engineering and wish to gain a Level 3 Extended Diploma technical qualifications in Mechanical Engineering. It comprises a range of practical and theoretical activities, and you will progress to work on a major project. The Extended Diploma consists of 6 mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 18 units. Each year you will study 9 units. The mandatory units include: - Health and Safety in the engineering workplace - Communications for engineering technicians - Engineering project (two unit value) - Mathematics principles and applications - Electrical and electronic principles You will also study 12 specialist Engineering units from a wide range of related subject areas, such as: - CNC - CAD - Materials - Mechanical technology - Engineering design - Engineering drawing - Welding To help with theory content, extra lessons in the form of GCSE English, for example, maybe available to give you further support. After achieving this qualification, you can progress onto a BTEC Higher National Certificate, University or employment.
