City & Guilds Diploma in Vehicle Body Repare & Refinishing

This course is designed to further extend the knowledge and ability of students wishing to continue their study in vehicle body repair and refinishing. The course is taught in our well equipped workshops and classrooms, it will involve completion of theoretical study using classroom delivery, assignments, phase tests and on-line multi-choice exams. The practical sessions require you to satisfy practical assessment criteria using pre-set tasks with the results recorded in a practical task workbook. This course will continue to develop the skills obtained at Level 1. At least a third of the course is spent in the workshop developing your skills in the manufacture, repair and refinishing of motor vehicle bodies and components. The course is normally delivered over 3 days a week. Subjects covered include: -Vehicle panel repair -Vehicle body component manufacture -Motor vehicle structures -Materials joining -Preparing and refinishing vehicle panels and components -Using composite materials to manufacture body components -Advanced practical hand skills -Tools and equipment used in refinishing -Applying fillers and foundation materials -Working with plastic materials and components -Preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces -Repairing minor paint defects -Establishing and rectifying minor paint defects -Applying topcoats and completing refinishing operations -Vehicle colour matching After successful completion of this course you could gain employment and continue further study via block release courses on an Apprenticeship programme. Those students who have successfully completed the Level 1 Vehicle Body Repair and/or Refinishing course with GCSE Maths and English at Grade D or above or the appropriate Functional Skills in English and Maths.
