You will cover a wide range of hairdressing activities in year one of the course and a wide range of beauty activities during the second year. The method of learning is by a mixture of both theory and practical workshop sessions. In year 1 you will study the practical and theoretical aspects of Hairdressing: - Shampooing - Conditioning - Styling Hair - Cutting - Colouring - Client Care - Health and Safety - Perming - Consultation - Promoting Products You will also study the theory behind all practical work, learning about the skin and hair. In year 2 you will study practical and theoretical aspects of Beauty Therapy: - Supporting Health, Safety and Security of the Salon Environment - Teamwork and Customer Care - Communication with Colleagues and Clients - Facial (skin preparation and facial massage and mask therapy) - Improving the Condition of the Hands and Feet - Enhancing Brows and Lashes - Application of Make Up - Removal/Lightening Hair (waxing, sugaring, bleaching) You will also study Anatomy and Physiology including the skin, hair, bones and muscles of the shoulder, neck, head and face. After successful completion of this course you could progress onto the City & Guilds VRQ Level 3 in Hairdressing and/or Beauty Therapy, subject to a skills and theory test. Other possible routes of employment include: Theatre, television, cruise liners, health hydro, hairdressing/beauty salons, salon manager or owner, department stores. This course is for those who wish to gain employment in a related area.
Name: City & Guilds VRQ Level 2 Diploma Combinded Hair & Beauty Qualification title: Diploma in Women's Hairdressing (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment Assessment is continuous throughout the course; each unit of assessment includes practical, oral and written components. A portfolio of work is also required as supporting evidence. You will be given guidance to prepare this in Portfolio Managements and on line exams. It is necessary for all learners to complete Hairdressing VRQ Level 2 before being able to continue into VRQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy or VRQ Level 3 Hairdressing. Year 1 - Hairdressing: Approximate Cost £350.00 towards the cost of Equipment, text books and uniform. Year 2 - Beauty Therapy Approximate Cost £400.00 towards the cost of Equipment, text books and uniform. There will be work experience in a commercial Hairdressing environment during Year 1 and Beauty Therapy environment during Year 2. Part-time work in a salon would also be an advantage. Visits to trade exhibitions/seminars are available throughout the year, at extra cost. These are optional. Please ask your interviewer for further details. If you are aged 19 or over on 1st September the exam fee payable at enrolment will be approximately £90 and in Year 2, this will be approximately £100.
