This qualification combines knowledge and practical work with employment experience. The course reflects the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in amenity and landscape gardening. A work-based apprenticeship in horticulutre covering all aspects of gardening skills. Typical units include establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, level and prepare sites for landscaping, use and maintain non-powered and hand-held powered tools and equipment, clear horticultural and landscaping sites and use and maintain pedestrian controlled powered equipment. Assessments are of a practical nature and are carried out throughout the course. The underpinning knowledge is also assessed. This can be done by a range of methods including written and verbal assessment. Most of the evidence of competence will be gathered in the workplace. Potential apprentices are expected to demonstrate that they are: •Prepared to attend off-the-job training •Able to acquire the broad range of skills, knowledge and understanding required in the Apprenticeship •Able to achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture Skill Requirements •Good practical skills •Stamina •Flexibility •Responsibility •Health and Safety awareness •Ability to work without supervision What else do I need to know? During this course you will also cover: •Employers rights and responsibilities workbook •Independent assessment test •Apprenticeship logbook ‘Horticulture' covers a wide range of activities and involves the undertaking of practical tasks. There is an expectation that learners will have a reasonable level of fitness.
