Automotive Maintenance and Repair at Level 3 Certificate / Diploma

This course is designed for young people and adults, who maybe already working within the motor vehicle area or who wish to gain employment in the sector. You will gain higher practical skills in motor vehicle maintenance, repair and service while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. The course provides a mixture of training and assessment leading to a completed advanced portfolio of evidence, covering practical ability as well as underpinning knowledge. Both workshop and classroom activities form part of the delivery process. Successful completion of this course can lead to opportunities to study on higher level programmes such as Level 4 or a University Degree, along with opportunities to move into management within the sector. Course Content The programme consists of the following mandatory units: 1. Contribute to workshop good housekeeping 2. Health and safety 3. Skills in supporting job roles in the automotive work environment 4. Knowledge of materials and measurement devices 5. Fabrication techniques used in the automotive industry 6. Diagnose and rectify transmission units and components 7. Diagnose and rectify engine units and components 8. Diagnose and rectify auxiliary electrical units and components 9. Diagnose and rectify chassis units and components In addition, 1 optional unit must be undertaken, normally: Knowledge of how to Identify and Agree Motor Vehicle Customer Service Needs English & Maths We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and Maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at Grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills Awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to University or employment.
