Level 3 Award in 3D Computer Aided Design

UPDATED 20120925 06:25:33

This course aims to equip you to apply a wide range of 2D drawing and editing commands and routines to aid the application and modification of the CAD software. You will become familiar with the necessary techniques required to produce and edit drawings of medium complexity and prepare the drawings for output to hard copy. This course uses the Autodesk AutoCAD © software. Topics studied: Applying appropriate commands to set the 3D modelling environment; Creating and using working planes at any required position/attitude within 3D space; Defining and using co-ordinate points at any position within 3D space; Applying appropriate commands to construct the whole or part of a 3D model using the best available method (surface or solid modelling); Applying appropriate commands to modify 3D solid objects; Applying appropriate commands to perform 3D operations on existing objects; Applying appropriate commands to manipulate a 3D model; Applying appropriate commands to view 3D model in a variety of display formats; Printing/plotting/exporting 3D models. The course is taught essentially as a student-centred workshop session, two and a half hours in duration, one evening per week, for thirty-two weeks. Each student is provided with a tutoring pack and progresses through that material at their own pace. A tutor is in attendance and patrols the learning area offering assistance and advice on-demand. The tutor is also available to provide one-to-one, small group, and entire class demonstrations as required. You could progress on to qualifications for parametric CAD software. Someone with a professional understanding of and considerable competence in 2D CAD using the AutoCAD package. Likely to be best suited to someone currently employed as a 3D CAD technician or progressing from the Level 3 Certificate in 2D CAD.
