IT Skills for Independent Living

This course is planned for the Visually Impaired. Students will gain the confidence to use information technology. During the course students will cover the basic concepts of IT - what the boxes on their desk are, a short history of computing, what exactly is a computer, computer hardware, software and data, what computers are used for and looking after number one (Health and Safety). Students will become adept at starting up a computer and shutting it down and working with folder. They will use Word to practice producing letters, documents and edit text. The Spreadsheets unit uses a package to: Produce Various Types of Spreadsheet Edit Data Enhance Design Produce Charts Use a Range of Formulae Presentations will be taught using a presentation package to produce computer based presentations, edit text, images and layout. The Internet and E-mail subject uses: World Wide Web to find information, use search engines; Send, receive and forward e-mails; Attach files to e-mails. Topics may include: Basic Concepts of Information Technology Using the Computer and Managing Files Word Processing Spreadsheets Presentation Internet and E-mail This course designed for the visually impaired and involves the use of Supernova software.
