This type of course is aimed mainly at the more technical side of window, door, curtain wall and conservatory manufacturing. The course involves the learner processing frames and items using a variant of different processes from cutting to joining and assembly.A good level of knowledge of the profile system and specifications is required as this level of fabricator would tackle the more complex fabrication items produced by the employer. The qualification is delivered in a factory environment with learners usually working in teams to process the items. The materials used can vary from UPVC to aluminium and timber. At level 3 a fabricator becomes a technical specialist, dealing with technical problems with machinery, processing or materials and identifying rectification methods. This level of fabricator can also be expected to be mentoring newer staff and working in close liaison with supervisors and managers.
