This Apprenticeship is for people who work with children – from birth to 16-year-olds (and their families) – in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development. Workers in this area make sure children are looked after, kept active, happy and nourished. They also help children develop social and practical skills. The Intermediate Level Apprenticeship is for those working under supervision such as a nursery assistant or playgroup assistant working with children under five. The Apprenticeship is made of the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce. It combines compulsory and optional units to achieve individual on the-job training and support. Candidates taking the Level 3 Diploma select an occupational pathway in either Early Learning and Childcare, Social Care or Learning Development and Support Services. Mandatory units include; Promoting Child and Young Person Development and Understanding how to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People. The Intermediate Apprenticeship also consists of functional skills qualifications in Maths, English and Information Technology at Level 1. Excemption from these may be possible depending on previously held qualifications. After successful completion of this Apprenticeship there is good scope for progression in these areas of work and can confidently progress onto level 3, following which City & Guilds offers a number of relevant qualifications, including level 4 and 5 diplomas..
