The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Countryside Management contains a good mix of practical and theory based learning, with a strong emphasis on acquiring essential practical skills during your first year through working on a variety of habitats and countryside sites locally. You learn by completing practical assessments that are based on realistic workplace situations, written assignments, power point presentations, practical workbooks and word processed reports. Course Content The course has FOUR mandatory core units: 1. Undertake an Investigative Project in the Land-based Sector 2. Understanding the Principles of Wildlife Populations, Ecology and Conservation 3. Undertake Estate Skills 4. Undertake and Review Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries And FOURTEEN specialist units, governed by the course content. The first year units will include: 1. Understanding Greenwood Crafts 2. Undertaking Environmental Interpretation in Land-based 3. Understanding Countryside Tourism and Recreation 4. Understanding Freshwater and Wetland Management 5. Undertaking Urban Habitat Conservation 6. Understanding Water Quality 7. Understanding the Principles of Forest Recreation. Second year units will cover topics such as Woodland Management, Ecology of Game, River Management, Coastal Management, Fishery Management and Ecological Concepts. Career Opportunities/Progression The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels A* - C and is a nationally recognised qualification which will enable you to progress onto a Higher National Diploma/Degree programme at University. Alternatively you could enter employment into to varied roles within the Countryside Management and Environmental Industry. Opportunities can include Countryside Ranger, Countryside Warden, Estate Worker working for organisations such as the National Trust, RSPB and Wildlife Trust.
