IT Practitioners Apprenticeship

UPDATED 20150910 11:39:22

As an ICT apprentice, you could be working a range of possible businesses or companies. IT is a central part of our lives and something we use every day. There is more and more demand for people who know how computers work and how to use them. You could be working as a support technician setting up new equipment or upgrading existing systems or you could be working on a helpdesk helping customers over the phone or email to identify and troubleshoot problems or faults. Alternatively you might be working in field operations where you will be travelling to customer sites to install, connect, maintain, test and repair equipment and services. Some apprentices might work for a web site design company helping to design and create websites for clients. All jobs will require you to have good people skills as well as the technical skills you’ll gain during your Apprenticeship. You will develop the skills and knowledge to work effectively and efficiently with IT systems, communication and productivity tools and software applications. An apprenticeship consists of a framework of qualifications and training 4 days in the workplace receiving on-the-job training and 1 day in college where you will complete classes to prepare you for the qualifications which make up the rest of the framework. You are encouraged to look for your own placement once you have completed your interview with college. The college will help to find a suitable placement but the emphasis is on you.
