This QCF qualification is for goods vehicle drivers who are able to show the minimum level of occupational competence required for a goods vehicle driver. This competence is more than that required by the relevant statutory driving test, as it includes competences in pre-driving checks (including the use of tachographs) and monitoring the loading of goods. Driving skills need to be shown whilst driving a goods vehicle that is laden with the learner’s typical load. Learners are required to drive safely and with acceptable wear and tear on the vehicle. Learners also have the opportunity to show competence in unloading goods vehicles, and coupling and uncoupling goods vehicles. Achievement of this Certificate provides the opportunity for individuals to demonstrate that they work consistently to a national standard recognised by their industry. It also indicates that an organisation is committed to developing its staff and maintaining quality.
