Those people who enjoy practical outdoor work and have already had some experience or interest in working in the Land Based Industries. Some work experience in horticulture will be beneficial. All students called for interview will be given an overview of the area by a senior member of the land team, normally with the Curriculum Manager. When this is completed all parents and students are welcome to ask questions to gain a better understanding of their course and life at the Isle of Wight College. Students are individually called for a 15 minute interview to enable staff and student to make an informed choice as to the suitability of the course and College life for them. All students will be informed at interview whether they are able to join their preferred course though some conditions are likely to ensure the required entry standard is reached before joining the course. This ensures all students are challenged and capable of completing their qualification to a good standard and to help them have a wider range of choices when they join the world of employment. Please bring a pen with you to the interview and a school report/record of achievement with you (for school leavers). You will complete 6 units in 1 year, such as: •Understand the Principles of Plant Science/Soil Science •Establish and Maintain Plants Outdoors •Participate in Providing Estate Maintenance •Participate in Propagation Techniques •Participate in Protected Horticultural Plant Production •Understanding the Principles of Plant and Animal Biology
