Organisations of all shapes and sizes need people to make them function. They may be in senior management positions or in clerical roles. They may be in front-line jobs or in behind-the-scenes roles. The administrative worker undertakes many tasks including all general office procedures, ie. dealing with incoming and outgoing mail, receiving telephone calls, dealing with customers and clients, text-processing, filing, record keeping, minute-taking, database management and customer care – essential skills necessary to ensure the smooth running of the modern busy office. This is a growing sector, especially for those with strong I.T. skills. This qualification provides students with a high quality, industry-recognised qualification. It provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding in administration and business, which will support entry into the business and administration workplace. They provide an ideal progression to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) once individuals are in suitable employment. The units you will undertake cover a range of topics, examples of which are shown below: •Working in office administration •Handling diary systems •Written business communication •Organise meetings •Making and receiving calls •Career planning in administration •Communicate with customers •Supporting recruitment and selection •Welcoming visitors •Financial transactions •Teamwork in administration Alongside the main qualification, learners will study a Level 1 AAT access course from the Association of Accounting Technicians. This short, introductory course teaches beginners the essential skills required in accounting.
