This NVQ is designed to reflect the work of everyone who uses IT skills for different purposes in their day to day work roles, and recognise skills and knowledge already acquired either through other qualifications or previous experience and learning. Individuals need IT skills to maximise efficiency in their occupation. Using IT can range from routine word/transaction processing, to constructive use of powerful application packages that are available. The aim of this qualification is to recognise the application of a range of IT user skills and knowledge in the workplace, meeting employer workforce demands. The flexibility of these qualifications will enable individuals' skills to be adapted for a specific work based activity and/or employer requirement. These qualifications allow for flexibility and choice. Candidates and employers can indenitify the most appropriate units and levels of skills to meet their needs in the workplace and candidates can have a range of competences recognised at lower or higher levels than the base level chosen, where appropriate. This qualification also allows Vocationally Related Qualifications to be recognised towards the overall achievement of the qualification, building on individuals' previous achievement and learning. This NVQ will allow for progression to and from OCR's existing portfolio of IT qualifications and will complement other vocational qualifications. If undertaken as an NVQ only (such as through Train to Gain) then the approximate duration is 9 months. If undertaken as part of an apprenticeship the approximate duration is 10 months.
