This qualification has been designed for those working in Driving Goods Vehicles. To achieve the award candidates must complete seven mandatory units which cover monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others; completing pre-driving preparations; maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property; maintaining awareness of driving conditions; operating the vehicle systems; driving the vehicle on public roads; and driving the vehicle in restricted spaces. Candidates may complete additional units although these are not a requirement for the award. These cover unloading the vehicle; and coupling and uncoupling the vehicle. If undertaken as an NVQ only (such as through Train to Gain) then the approximate duration is 6 months.
