This course gives a highly specialised introduction to the wide variety of design practices that include Graphic Design, Illustration and Game Art. The course is diverse and challenging and will enable you to develop your creative and technical skills resulting in a sophisticated portfolio of work to allow you to progress to exciting opportunities in the creative industries or apply to study for a degree course at Plymouth College of Art or another college or university. Our students progress onto or work in the fields of Graphic Design, Illustration, Game Arts, character development, printmaking, book cover design, magazine spreads, logo design, photography, websites, advertising, typographic design, animation and book illustration. The course will also accommodate designers who want to create Concept Art, Character Design and Game Arts. We will give you a solid grounding in art and design processes and ideas before guiding you through a range of digital skills including technical and creative image manipulation through design packages such as the Adobe suite and 3D computer modelling. We work very closely with external companies and freelancers to provide live briefs for projects or assignments so that you get to experience both real briefs and working environments. By completing the two-year course and successfully passing all units you will achieve a Level 3 Extended Diploma accredited by UAL – equivalent to three full A-levels, or a maximum of 420 UCAS points.
