The Engineering Intermediate Apprenticeship Training Programmes comprise of a work-related NVQ (Performing Engineering Operations), a VRQ Technical Certificate (Diploma in Engineering Technology or Award in Industrial Environment Awareness) and Functional Skills in English and Maths. A day release programme will be compiled for an Apprentice which outlines a structured training programme, this specifically covers the training each individual needs, to ensure time away form the workplace is kept to a minimum, however full time programmes are available. The Performing Engineering Operations NVQ provides the ideal foundation for entrants into a wide range of occupations. They are based on national occupational standards, developed to meet the needs of the engineering industry now and into the future, and can satisfy the foundation requirement of the Intermediate Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering. A grounding in basic skills, knowledge and understanding of common engineering practices, along with a grasp of safe working practices, are essential for anyone seeking to build a career in engineering. These qualifications cover the fundamentals common to all engineering practices, including health and safety requirements and communicating engineering information, whilst offering extensive choice and flexibility for candidates to demonstrate competence in one or more of a broad variety of engineering activities. This can lead onto an Advanced Apprenticeship which takes up to a further 3 years to complete in company.
