On this course you can work towards qualifications specialising in either: Body Repair, Paint Refinishing, Body Building or MET - Mechanical, Electrical and Trim. As an apprentice, you will be working on cars or commercial vehicles undertaking a variety of supervised tasks. Your duties will vary depending on the qualification you are working towards. The Body repair route will include repairing plastics and metals, removal and refitting of non-structural panels and welding techniques. The Paint refinish route will include preparation of plastic and metal panels, primer application and fault rectification. The Mechanical, Electrical and Trim route includes wheel alignment, suspension, electrics and trim removal as well as replacing body panels. The Body building route includes removal and fitting of body panels, assembling vehicle body components, working on electrical components and welding and bonding techniques. You will also cover health and safety in the workplace and use of tools on all routes. Your college day will cover technical theory and practical (workshop and classroom) in your chosen specialism. If you need to complete functional skills qualifications, these will also be delivered on your college day. To be an apprentice you need to be employed by a company for 40 hours per week which includes one day a week attendance at college. You are encouraged to look for your own placement. The College will help to find a suitable placement but the emphasis is on you. Please note: this course may not be suitable for students with asthma.
