The purpose of this qualification is to develop and recognise learners' IT skills and knowledge and enable them to use IT effectively in their daily lives. This qualification is designed to prepare learners for employment in the IT sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a specific area of work within the IT industry. To achieve this qualification you must complete a minimum of 16 credits and 120 guided learning hours. It has 1 mandatory unit; Improving Productivity Using IT which counts as 4 units. You then choose 3-6 units depending on their credit size from 29 optional units including Using the Internet, Using Email, Database Software, Presentation Software etc. Learners will attend support and guidance workshops. In between each workshop they will be observed at their place of work and have access to support and guidance from Assessors. Learners will be expected to allocate themselves approximately 3 hours a week at their place of employment, to work on their portfolio of evidence.
