This course is designed for those who wish to progress beyond NPTC CS38 and 39. This course is for those involved with crown thinning and crown reduction from a rope and harness and using equipment safely. Trainees wishing to progress to this level must have achieved NPTC CS30, 31, 38 and 39. Course Content ? Safe working procedures ? Pre-use checks ? Working with the grounds person ? Work positioning, chainsaw best practice ? Cutting techniques ? Crown thinning ? Crown reduction ? Target pruning ? Legislative issues Learning Outcomes Candidates will be able to: 1. Identify, inspect and comment upon key parts of the equipment to be used 2. Prepare the equipment for use ensuring the safety of themselves, other people and the environment. 3. Comment upon the structure, condition and properties of the tree(s) to be worked upon. 4. Use a chainsaw and other pruning tools whilst maintaining a working position within the crown of a tree using a rope and harness in conjunction with ground staff.
